Bangladesh Olympiad on Astronomy & Astrophysics

Bangladesh Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics Committee (BDOAAC) is recognized as the National Olympiad Authority that organizes the regional and national olympiads on astronomy and astrophysics (A&A), hosts the national A&A camp in Bangladesh, and sends students to the International Olympiad on A&A (IOAA).

National Round

The National Round is the 2nd round of BDOAA, where students selected from the Regional Round can participate. It is a subjective exam consisting of short, medium and long answer questions that require a deeper understanding of physics and astronomy.

Topic Distribution Over Years

We have analyzed questions from the past five years of the National Rounds of BDOAA. The topics have been broadly categorized into the following areas: Astronomical Geometry, Cosmology, Mechanics & Celestial Mechanics, Radiation Mechanics, Stellar Astrophysics, Photometry, Positional Astronomy, Astronomical Timekeeping, Optics & Telescope, Data Analysis, and Observation. As the total marks varied each year, we have normalized the topic-wise mark distribution into generalized percentages.

Detailed Topic Breakdown

The following sections outline the specific conceptual areas generally encompassed by the BDOAA National Round questions.

Astronomy & Geometry: Planetary Configuration, Eclipse, Retrograde Motion, Analemma, Parallax.
